How Did Mustard Seed Development Get
Started?
In 1999 Toree Stokes and Yolanda Parker prayed and labored
together to design a program to assist families in need by developing
educational components to enhanced an individuals financial and credit
outcomes.
The program has assisted over 4,500 people since 1999, and
we look forward to offering greater opportunities to serve our community in
the future.
How Do
We Help?
Since 1999 MSDC
has progressed in offering comprehensive, innovative and practical methods
that have assisted individuals to improve in managing their financial
transactions. We have
particularly focused on assisting individuals in avoiding foreclosure,
evictions, dependency on using check cashing facilities and shut offs with
utilities by offering discounts in housing items, down payment assistance,
assisting individuals in being successful in loan approvals and home
purchase, home renovations and many more positive and empowering features to
encourage financial stability.
We have created housing
product and programs to ensure that our participants can achieve and maintain
financial transaction and homeownership without the risk of being taken
advantage of. With our assistance we have been able to decrease the
number of families that have purchase homes with loans that charge higher
fees and interest rates and that need major repairs after the loan
closes.
How Did We Come Up With Our Name?
In a brain storming session with
Toree, Yolanda and volunteers we requested a list of names from everyone
there that would best describe what the organization was about. No name
was adequate enough to express our heart felt meaning of our purpose and
cause.
We then started defining what it was we wanted the
participant to receive from us. Yolanda stated that it sounded like all
we wanted was for the client to understand that "If they could just have
faith, the size of a Mustard Seed to believe that things could change for
them.............." And the rest is how we got our name.
We firmly believe that God has a plan for everyone.
Even though we have dark moments in our lives, God has a plan.
With the participants believing God has commission us to do what we do,
and has commission them to attend our classes, together we will determine
what it is that must be done to bring about a change in their lives.
It is our desire that lives will be changed through the
support of our funders, partners and prayer teams
where we can see miracles in action.
